Why does Exchange sends SMS and Email about Funds & Securities?

Exchanges send notifications on frequent basis  to clients directly, about their fund and security balance which they maintain with their Stock Brokers. This is done to ensure that clients have these information available and transparent without the intervention of the Stock Brokers.

Example message: "NAVIA MARKETS LTD on 22-06-24 reported your Fund bal Rs.122775.17 & Securities bal 0. This excludes your Bank, DP & PMS balance with the broker-NSE."

Points to Note:

  • Date-Specific Balance: The balance shown is as of the date mentioned in the message.
  • Ledger Balance: Reflects your account balance in the trading ledger.
  • Securities Balance: This is not your demat holdings balance, but it shows the value of stocks held by the Stock Broker to cover debit (unpaid amount), if any, in your account.

Example :If you had bought a stock and ended up with a debit in your account, then the stocks thus bought will be pledged from your account against the debit in your ledger. If you do not have any debit this balance will reflect 0.

Purpose of Notifications:

  • Ensures clients have up-to-date information.
  • Part of SEBI’s initiative for better supervision and client awareness.
  • Monthly updates from NSE, BSE, and MCX for transparency and security.
