Transposition cum Dematerialization: Reordering Joint Holdings
Yes, you can change the sequence of joint holders without it constituting a transfer of rights. This process is called Transposition. Joint holders can submit a written request to the company to change the order of names. However, this facility applies to the entire holdings in a folio and cannot be used for a portion of the holdings.
If the same set of joint holders owns securities in different name sequences, there's no need to open multiple demat accounts for dematerialization. Using the Transposition cum Demat facility, securities held under different combinations of names can be dematerialized into a single demat account. To do this, you need to submit both the Dematerialization Request Form (DRF) and the Transposition cum Demat Form to your Depository Participant (DP).
