What is a settlement holiday and its impact?

Q1. What is a settlement holiday?

A settlement holiday is a day when the stock markets remain open for trading, but the clearing corporations and depositories are closed. As a result, pay-in and pay-out of funds and securities are not processed on that day.

Q2. How does a settlement holiday affect my account?

  • Profits from trades done the previous day will not reflect in your account until the next settlement day.
  • Proceeds from Sale done the previous day will not reflect in your account until the next settlement day.
  • T1 holdings – Purchase of Shares done the previous day will also not be visible in  the Holding Menu in the trading platform until the next settlement day.

Q3. Can I trade on a settlement holiday?

Yes . Trading is allowed across Equity, F&O, and Commodity markets.
Only the settlement of funds and securities is deferred.

Q4. Does settlement Holiday affect my funds payout request?

Yes. Funds payout requests will not processed on a Settlement holiday as Brokers are not allowed to downstream client funds from the Clearing Corporation on Settlement Holiday.
